ACCESS STATEMENT FOR POSTHORN COTTAGE, LUDLOW
Introduction

Posthorn Cottage is a three storey, semi-detached building located off Broad Street in the town centre of Ludlow.

Pre-Arrival

  • We have a basic website.
  • Bookings and enquiries can be made via the website by email, telephone or letter.
  • The nearest bus stop is located in the town square, approx 0.9 km from the cottage.
  • A public telephone is also located in this area.
  • Ludlow railway station is approx ¼ mile away. Although it is within walking distance, the walk involves an uphill climb. Local taxi firms can be booked to collect guests( contact numbers supplied on request)
  • All guests are provided with written directions to the cottage ( available in dyslexia friendly font and different font size).

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • Posthorn Cottage is located in the second of two covered pedestrian passageways which lead off Broad Street.
  • The first passageway leads onto a small open courtyard and the second alleyway leads off the right hand corner of the courtyard. The total distance from Broad Street is 25m. The width of the passages is approximately 1.5m.
  • The second passage is partially cobbled and this section has a very uneven surface at the moment (see Future Plans).
  • There are three disabled car parking spaces (one on the right hand side of the street and two on the left) on Broad Street close to the entrance of the passage way leading to the cottage.
  • It is possible to park for a short time on Broad Street directly opposite the entrance to the passage in order to unload luggage.
  • After that it is possible to park in a parking bay on Broad Street (pay and display: 3hrs max during the day and free from 6pm to 8am)
  • The proprietors also provide a parking season ticket which allows unlimited free parking in a nearby public car park (approx 5 mins walk away)
  • A key safe is located to the right of the front door at a height of 1.55m. An alternative method for accessing the key can be arranged on request.

Main Entrance and Reception

  • There are two steps in front of the cottage door; height 17cm and 16 cm
  • The width of the front door is 84 cm and the hinge is on the right.
  • The door opens onto a small hall; width 1.15 m and length 1.5m
  • The hall has a wooden floor and just inside the door there is a mat (currently not inset)
  • The door to the lounge/dining room and kitchen areas is on the right hand side of the hall and the stairs lead off the hall directly opposite the front door.
  • There are two folders in the lounge/ dining room which give information
  • 1: about local amenities (including bus and train services, churches and library and cafes and restaurants
    and
    2: about places of interest in Ludlow and surrounding areas.
  • There is also an information board in the kitchen which gives contact numbers for the proprietor and caretaker and for the local casualty unit and nearest doctor and dentist surgeries.

Public Areas

  • There are two flights of stairs. The first has 13 treads (height: 16cm and width 85cm in the straight section. The straight section of this staircase has a banister to the right. It turns to the right for the final 3 treads which narrow at one end and widen at the other to accommodate the turn; there is a newel post which can be used for support in this section.
  • The first staircase gives access to a landing which has a banister railing to the right. It is 0.5m long and 85 cm wide, with two bedrooms leading off from the left hand side and bathroom/WC at the end.
  • At the end of the landing on the right hand side, there are 3 stairs which lead to a small landing ( 85 cm wide and 1 m long)
  • On the right hand side of this landing there is another staircase with 12 treads, again with a straight section and banister to the right with a turn on the 8th, 9th and 10th section of the stairs.
  • This leads onto another small landing (80 cm wide and 1.70m long) which gives access to the airing cupboard and upstairs lounge.

Dining Room, Lounge and Kitchen

  • The door to the lounge dining room is 72 cm with the hinge on the right.
  • This room has a wooden floor with two mats, one in the dining end and one in the lounge area.
  • The kitchen is on the right hand side of the lounge and has no door. The opening from the lounge into the kitchen is 90cm wide.
  • There are units on either side of the kitchen with a distance of between 85 and 95 cm between them; the kitchen narrows towards the far end.
  • The height of the oven hob, sink and work surfaces is 90 cm.
  • The flooring in the kitchen is non-slip vinyl.

Bedrooms

  • The bedroom doors are both hinged to the right and are 72cm wide.
  • All pillows and quilts are non-feather
  • The twin bedded room is the more spacious of the two with a distance of 80 cm between bed and wall on both sides when the beds are placed together,
  • The distance between bed and wall in the double bedded room is 25cm on the right and 80cm on the left of the bed.

Bathroom and WC

  • The bathroom door is hinged to the left and is 66 cm in width.
  • The bathroom is 2.40m long and 1.10mwide, though this width is narrower opposite the basin.
  • The bath with shower is directly to the left of the door. In order to reach the shower it is necessary to step into the bath, the height of which is 50 cm.
  • There are rails set into the edges of both sides of the bath but no rail on the wall by the shower
  • The hand basin is on the right hand wall and WC at the right hand end of the bathroom, past the basin.
  • The distance between the rim of the basin and opposite wall is 65 cm.

Additional Information

  • There is a small paved patio beside the cottage
  • There is a step (height 16 cm) leading up to the patio and the gate is 70 cm wide.
  • Mobile phone reception can be restricted in the downstairs room and passage but a clear signal can be obtained in the upstairs room and on the patio.
  • We regret that we cannot accept pets due to our town centre location and restricted outdoor area.
  • We have a no smoking policy within the cottage.
  • We are open all year.
